Dowload tool that will save pictures and embedded captions?

Is there a current, working downloader that will allow not only pictures from a gallery to be saved, but also any embedded captions that were added?

A friend of mine is working to archive pictures from a mutual friend that recently passed away.

Our friend spent many hours captioning their photos and providing their thoughts at the time the picture was taken, and the captions have become as important as the image itself.

I know Album Fetcher was recommended back a few years ago, but this may no longer work. Of course, if it does, please let me know.

Are there any current downloaders that will save not only the image, but also any embedded captions?

Just tried Album Fetcher and can't seem to log in. Think it needs an update.

    Try this
    http://cldownload.50webs.com/

    Listed on its features page.
Home Features Installation Other Features/Tips CLDownload Home

Populates the resulting jpgs metadata; Title, Subject, and Tags from the SmugMug images Caption, Category/Album Name, and Keywords metadata.

Thanks. I tried that, but I keep getting an API login error. Do you just launch the application and provide the username and password?

Which app did you try? Maybe someone familiar with it will reply.

Bulk downloading of galleries is one of the most requested featured on our feature request page. Feel free to throw in your two cents. However, downloading of your own photos (or in this case, your friends assuming you have access to his account now) can be accomplished as follows:

    1. Login (www.smugmug.com/login)
    2. Click on "Organize" at the top
    3. Navigate to the gallery you want to download.
    4. Click the download icon, it's just to the left of the trashcan
    5. Select "Download Gallery". A link will be emailed to you once the zip file(s) are ready. If you don't have access to the email, you can wait a few minutes, and click "Download Gallery" again and you will be given the links in a window.

That should get you the images and the captions, etc.
