I am looking for an SB-900 or 800 if you have one. I dont have a set price yet, but a new one is $450 right now. Please feel free to pm me or leave me a message on here!

    Sorry, but $390 for a used SB-800 is a little too high for me. I can get a brand new SB-900 on newegg.com for $440 shipped. Its new and newer model.

    Sounds like a call to newegg is in order! Some prefer the 800 over the 900 and you can't compare price when they don't sell the 800 anymore. I have a 900 with the original batteries in it. I just don't use it much. You can buy it but not for $200. If you want a $200 flash buy another SB200. GH

    I was thinking $200. For a used 900 I think $350-400 is fair depending on condition and use.

    I've seen instances where folks have paid as much for a great condition SB800 as you'd expect for the SB900. There are a few factors: the SB800 is no longer manufactured, it was uniformally well-liked and a number of users have described problems with the SB900 (over heating).

    Most well-conditioned 800's (with 5th battery and accessories) have been going for $330 - $380. It's all about supply and demand.

    I know but I feel like they havent used the sb-900 long enough to get a good idea. I see Joe McNally and he uses a ton of sb-900s. I guess we will see how it goes!

    I have SB-800s (plus 600s & an old 28) and have used the SB-900s. I find the size of the 800 much better as the 900 is big! I routinely carry 3 to 5 flashes along with the stands, umbrellas and hardware into the field. Size matters. There are reasons the 800 used sells for nearly as much as the 900 new, and I even been known to refer to the 800s as "cult" flashes. To what degree they are good reasons is subjective. I am however considering adding a 900 to my stable as I like the lens tracking when using a DX camera. I would think the 900 had been around more than long enough to be well vetted!

    With all due respect to the man, and Joe McNally warrants a great deal of respect for his knowledge, expertise, sense of humor and success; but he is also sponsored by Nikon and has assistances with his shoots. He may not be the best example to cite.

    Sadly, I sponsor myself and have no one else to drag my equipment around.
