It's certainly a nice enough shot. But it doesn't have near the visual impact the other one had. I would lump this one into that " iconic " grouping I mentioned before....good shots all, but not particularly outstanding.

Thanks for commenting. The sky is exactly the color it was on that day -- completely overcast, but no dark clouds. What you perceive as tops of trees in the foreground are low-growing leafy vegetation, and a few trees seemingly photographed without trunks due to the steep dropoff at the edge of the trail.

This view was an epiphanous one for me, and the photograph was carefully framed. The double contrast -- white bark against the yellow leaves and hard verticals against the soft cloud of leaves and background mountains -- added a great deal to the composition.
