For me, it's not an either/or... the emphasis shifts to the eyes in the B&W, and the color shows us why boxing gloves are red - both work for me.
The B&W is more "dramatic".
I think the B/W is a bit overdone it looks like he has mud or sand on his forehead instead of sweat. No offense Tony, I am just saying. I would try to tone it down.

I agree, I have been looking at this for days and could not quite get what was bothering me in the bw, which would have been my natural choice. Lensmole nailed it.
