Second Attempt At Friday Night Football
Being as I picked up a new 70-200mm 2.8, I thought I'd give night high school football another try. I really missed the reach the 80-400 VR had, but the speed of the 70-200 coupled with the snappy AF (which the 80-400 doesn't have), gave much better results when the subjects were in range.
These used a monopod mounted flash.. 1.  2.  3

A few more I processed.
4.  5.  6.  It's tough to get really good facial expressions with the short reach of the 70-200, but the "action" images were acceptable to me. FWIW...These were taken for an online news outlet which publishes everything in a landscape format.
