Custom URLs and links

Hi Guys

I currently have a wordpress site with my custom url up and running. I will however swap or point this url to my new smugmug site eventually, once my smugmug site is built +/- 2-3 months. My question is, while I am building the site and installing the links my smugmug site will have the url's http://myname.smugmug.com/information for example. What happens when I point my custom url to my site. I assume I will have to redo all the http://myname.smugmug.com/information links again to http://mycustomurl.com/information. Is this correct?

The nickname formats (myname.smugmug.com) will continue to work, and you can change (or not) at your leisure.

What won't work is https. The nickname format (https://myname.smugmug.com) works but the custom domain format will not (https://mycustomrul.com) as smugmug does not support HTTPS for custom domains at all, so as you change to the custom domain, be sure to use only http.

If you are planning to use a custom domain, why not acquire that domain now and build your wordpress site referencing the custom domain?

I already have my custom name which is already up and working with my current site.

Strange, this is not the answer I received from smugmug support directly, I am advised by them the myname.smugmug will automatically be removed and the custom url inserted with any input from my end.

It all depends on how you set it up. If you input your custom domain into the SmugMug account settings, then we turn all links from nickname.smugmug.com to customdomain.com. Using the nickname.smugmug.com will just redirect to your customdomain -- so all links will still work, it'll just redirect.

I have set nothing up, put in my name have a 14 days account thats it. I am working away I have created galleries and pages like

https://myname.smugmug.com/information/information

when I point my custom url I expect

https://customurl.com/information/information

Is that not correct will this not happen?

That's exactly what should happen when you point your domain name to smugmug (via the CNAME in your DNS) and then also put your domain name into your Account Settings on SmugMug.

As you can see here, it's pointing to my domain name with folders and galleries after it: www.aaronmphotography.com/Nature/Landscapes

Thanks, that's how I understood it. I would be a lot of work if I had to go back and change links etc..
