Short & sweet maiden voyage with my new out-of-the-box Sigma 120-300 f2.8 Sports glass.
I was driving home from the camera store. the route goes right by the Kalamazoo Valley
Community College baseball/softball fields where I noticed a game in progress. I only live
a half-mile from the school so I ran home, unpacked the lens, Slapped it on my D700, grabbed
the monopod and returned to the game!

A minor down-side...lens, camera, and mono checked out at 23 lbs.!

The game was almost over so I didn't get many shots, but I was blown away by lens. All shots
SOC except for cropping.

C&C always welcome.

    Lucky You
You are SO going to love that lens. I have the older version, without the USB thingy.

Thanks John, have you had any issues with AF?

    Regards,

No. I found it to be as fast as my Nikkor 300mm f/2.8. So I sold the Nikkor :D Most of my sports shooting is field sports (field hockey, soccer, lacrosse) so quick AF is pretty much the name of the game. If you ain't got it, nothing else matters.
Keep in mind, mine is the "old" version. You may have to fiddle with yours to get it dialed in for all I know. I notice you're shooting with the D700. I was never real happy with the D700 for sports. That's why I bit the bullet and ponied up for the D3s.

Great stuff. Makes me wonder about my Canon 300/2.8LIS! It's flawless except it doesn't zoom!

I always try to catch that same pose in your first shot, love it.

Thanks Jack, these girls are very animated in their pitch sequences.

#1 is an example of an illegal pitch, unless they changed the rules. I love the intensity in her face.

    Thanks,

I don't know all the rules, but the pitchers on both teams left their feet on their delivery...
