How do I get rGB colorspace after optimizing for web ("File/Save for web ...")

Trying again for an answer to a strange result in CS3. When I optimize for the web (reduce size and click "File/Save for web and other devices"), I get a file that shows no "Color profile" head in Bridge metadata. When I re-open in PS, I'm am asked to assign a profile, but when I again "Save for web ...", the metadata again shows no assigned profile. I'm assuming results are in sRGB colorspace since it's my understanding that this is the gamut best suited for screen display, but have no way of knowing this. Can someone explain what's happening here? Obviously I'm missing something. Many thanks for your time.

save for the web strips all metadata content from the image to help make it a smaller file over all......I believe ...............if you want to see any metadata you will have to use "save as" instead of "save for the web"..........since your saving for the web it should be in srgb (i think) since that is the webs and your monitors color space................

Yes, use only sRGB for web. When using Save for web in PSCS, it asumes you want sRGB and that is what you get, though as Art say, it does not tag the file as sRGB to save file size and because when untagged browsers will assume the file is sRGB anyhow.

FOr a whole write up un sRGB and the web see Jeffrey Friedl's Blog on Color etc at http://regex.info/blog/photo-tech/color-spaces-page1/.

Many thands. That's what I figured, just didn't understand the stripping of the metadata. Makes sense.

If you want to continue using "Save for Web & Devices", then check the box "ICC Profile" before hitting the Save button. Photoshop CS3 will assign the file with the default sRGB color space.
