Dragon Boat Races

They've been going on for 2,000 years, but I saw my first Dragon Boat races this weekend. Crews from all over Florida went to Tavares and competed. The 45' long boats have 20 paddlers (each with a canoe-type paddle), a drummer to set the beat, and a steersman. Races are over 450 meters.

More pix at my SmugMug site. I only used two photos of the Lucy Lawless look-alike that was the drummer for one crew, but my wife says I spent far too much time focusing on her.

    Nice!

The lake looks nice and flat...when they did them up by me they were pulling people out of the water left and right and they ended up having to call the races a bit early because it was getting so choppy.

    Looks like a fun day!
