These are all good, but they are the same. A slight difference in facial expression, but for the most part he is facing the same direction with hands in the same general location. I would suggestion just trying to change up the poses a smidge.

I like #3 because it would seem to fit his personality and the pose is very good - with one nit. Behind the bottom of his left ear is a small branch - it looks like an earring.

Shirt does not fit most of the bkgs as it is too high key for the low key bkgs.

They are pretty good, on 4 I like the use of the walk path which takes the place of the cliched senior portrait railroad tracks but I think better exposure on the background with possibly using fill flash would have made the pic pop more.

Mitch, what glass did you use for the #4? it Exif shows 300mm 2.8 0_o

Indeed that was shot with my 300mm, f2.8 lens. I don't own a 200mm, f2 so I was trying to get a bit of compression on that path. I probably should have just stuck with my 70-200mm wide open.

I didn't notice the lens used until it was mentioned, but did you have any closeups? That is one of the advantages of a 300 mm lens over even a 200 mm. It is best for closeup as there is less distortion and it will really melt away the backgrounds.

Wait!!!! Is this your son?!?! Or one of the cousins? Please tell me he hasn't grow so much since I was on here last?! Love the photos as always ... if anything I think #1 + 4 are a little flat / love the rim light in #2 and the "sparkly light"/bokeh in #3!

OMG - the one you chose is WAY AND AWAY better than the first you posted. That smile makes all the difference.
