Maroon Bells

Had to go see what the fuss is all about with the oft-snapped Maroon Bells outside of Aspen last week. Even though I was well past peak color season they didn't disappoint. I'd like to head back for some milky way shots and stormy weather shots in the future. A must see if you find yourself out this way.

Thanks so much! Yep, got up early after a concert and groggily made my way there. Turns out getting there at official sunrise is a bit early but I'm sure in the fall when the leaves are peaking it's mandatory.

Great shot. Looks chilly. Curious what kind of a hike it is to get out there?

Thanks! About 2 minute hike from the car

Which probably helps make it one of the most photographed places in the US. The longest part of the morning was waking up early after an awesome concert & driving from Snowmass

Yeah can't wait to get up there at night, the mountains face northeast so as the Milky Way comes up from the SW it should make for some cool shots.

Thanks Boco, yeah the white balance is a little cool but it was a cold morning

Oh yeah, that explains the popularity. I was thinking (hoping) it was a much further hike in.

No way am I walking that far

For some reason, I had it in my mind that the walk was a bit farther. But it would explain why there are such large crowds.

First, great shot there. I have only rarely seen a hybridized autumn/winterized pic of MB and it is nice to see that you made the effort to get there in morning light.

Yeah, that hike to get the shot. Its a killer!

But seriously, there is a lot of hiking to be done there too. About 90 minutes up is a really cool mountain lake-like reservoir and other scenery that is well worth the sometimes muddy and rocky walk.

Yes, we should! Besides the not-too-long 90 minute hike, it is only just another 1,290 miles for me from here.
