Unlisted with Password vs. Private Galleries

This came up in another thread, and I was hoping we could get some official insight here.

Is there any backend difference between an Unlisted gallery with a password and a Private gallery? It seems to me that in both cases, each is protected by a password, and neither is searchable or listed anywhere. I understand that a private gallery does not permit any photos within it to be collected, shared, posted, etc., but from a security standpoint is a Private gallery more secure?

Thanks for any insight.

Adam

I don't know anything about the back end differences, but I'd guess it comes down to the strengths of the passwords you choose... the gallery password for unlisted galleries and your account password for private galleries. But of course if someone gets your account username and password, they can see all your private and unlisted galleries anyway.

That's kinda my point. In the end, they are both protected by just a password. The strength of the password determines how secure they are. I'm just trying to find out if there are any other innate differences.

    Hi,

A private gallery can only be seen by you, the logged in account owner. If you have an unlisted & password protected gallery you can share the link and the password and those third party people can see the content. If you have a gallery set to private sharing the link and password will not allow them to see the content.

    Unlisted - can be shared
Private - for your (account owner) eyes only

I hope this helps. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask, we are always happy to help.

    Best Regards,
