Yes, but it IS set to display by categories, but still the one that should be excluded ("Travel" category) show on

Every thumb on your Portfolio page is a gallery not a category.

Try clicking the underlined categories and see if it toggles. It's now set to the word that's not underlined.

I guess it was ok ("by category") at the first place and I shouldn't have changed anything (it just that at the beginning it didn't work and I thought I need to toggle this..). Anyway, it works now :)

The one thing left is - how can I activate the feature I had in original navbar where the currently-active page was marked with underline ?

Not knowing much about this see if adding the red to your header html helps.
