Rusty Old Junkyard

Went on a photo shoot with some fellow meetup members to a local junk yard near Charlotte. And it really was a "junk" yard - a few old cars, but lots of old tools, equipment, and just general "stuff". I haven't quite become a rust junky just yet, but I'm working on it...

1 - Old IH panel truck

2 - Clipper coupe - Clipper was a Packard model in the early 1950s, and was sold as a separate car line in 1955-56.

3 - This chrome trim has seen better days.

4 - The rest of the Cadillac

5 - Creepiest Coca Cola ad ever!

6 - Grab a gear!

7 - Rusty old fence

8 - This one's for you, Tom!

Boy, John, you've got all the ear-markings of being a true JUNKIE. Very nice series. thumb.gif That #5 shot is particularly compelling. And, of course, I'm really drawn to the last one.

Welcome to our little clan...you'll fit right in.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Cool stuff Moose... especially that Coke sign! I didn't know that Chucky got started so early!
There's something sad about all that fine "Detroit Iron" wasting away...

I got a serious laugh from your "It really was a "Junk" Yard" rolleyes1.gifThere are in fact different flavors of em thumb.gif You described this one and provided images for just what you mean. Having that kind of variety in 1 place is so very nice as exampled. Especially when it comes to old dilapidated anythings. IMO. :D
Very cool your willing to give your skills a chance to work in that environment and others similar. Hopefully your seeing potentials worth further investigation acording to what you like or do not like from just this set for example. There must be some charm in this area of photography for you already or you wouldn't bother I'm thinking. So its going to be neat to see what else it is that gets your attention and time as you go along photographing "junk" looking for visual value as you see it.
Image 5 is something else. Creepy like you say. Creepy cool thumb.gifthumbthumb.gif Excellent find. I found out he is "Sprite Boy" after searching with Coke Boy. You might have the only creepy Sprite Boy image there is. And a super well done shot at that. A #1 return out of a junk yard. Heck ya!

Thanks for all the kind words! This was outside my usual zone, but it was a fun shoot. Between airplanes and cars and such, I've always been something of a gear head, and I guess this represents the natural cycle from slick, shiny machine to worn down and rusty. I doubt this will be my last foray into the world of rust.
