I like it, just not sure about the composition. I like the low angle, just not sure about centering the horizon. How was the color? I'm curious to see it in color...

^ +1. Seems to me the subject would be the beach and not the sky.

I was more interested in mirroring the shape of the clouds with the lines in the sand, pulling the eye to the dead centre where there is simply a wave to give a spot of strong contrast with the deep shadows of teh wave and the froth on top, theyn my eye is taken back to the -X- shaped made by the clouds and lines in the sand , so it has the eyffect of making the eye zoom in and out
    ;)

I didnt want to make it too graphic, with vignette and increased contrast and darker sky, but to maintain the sense of luminance and just suggesting the graphic rather than letting be too overt

here was another version I rejected

    as requested here's the original

Perhaps if I were a little bolder, does it work any better ....?

I actually like it in color! Would make a great pastel if you worked it - IMHO. :)

Like the bolder version thumb.gifthumb. I understand your concept for the comp and agree. Rules are made to be broken.

I also am doing a little mono at this time in fact I spent most of the weekend examining my enlarger, tanks and chemicals. It's a great landscape and I know exactly what you were shooting for. The way the clouds and even the sand point to the center of the photo drawing your attention to the breaking waves making the photo more then just a snap shot. I think it demonstrates the effort you put into the composition. Great job

I think the X you were trying to illustrate is more pronounced and easily seen in the bolder version and even in the version you rejected. In the original image it was far less obvious and more easily overlooked.
I too prefer the latter mono images.
