[Fixed] SM and PicMonkey bug

In the latest Chrome browser (build 38.0.2125.122), the thumbnail representation of the entire photo, at the bottom right of the PicMonkey edit screen, has gone away. It now just displays a very tiny fraction of the photo being edited. The navigation continues to function sort of, but I am wondering that there may be something worse happening behind the scenes.

This was working perfectly just 24 hours ago. We should always see the entire photo thumb there with the tiny movable box. Not too usable now. Navigation is way off.

Here's what I see now:

Is Smugmug running a version of PicMonkey natively and then into my browser, or is Smugmug calling up PicMonkey at their own service, live, and interacting with it? I know they (PicMonkey) push updates pretty often, so might this problem be from their end?

It seems to work perfectly on their demo site. Just not with my new Smugmug. I've cleared the browser cache and history, and rebooted.

I have seen sort of this behavior when the photo being edited is HUMONGOUS.
I assumed Picmonkey could not reduce the photo any more than moving the arrow down to the bottom.

    Is that photo size gigantic?

No. Same size as all the rest. In fact, it is a copy of the same photo that worked with the full thumb showing just the day before. The behavior just changed overnight.

I see that it happens on my photos too when I load them with PicMonkey. I've emailed PicMonkey to see if we can get them to address this.

    Thank you, Aaron!

Luckily it doesn't affect the actual editing much, but it is bothersome. In my same browser, it works perfectly at their own site. There is something to do with the SM integration, I'm thinking.

The last I heard was that they were able to reproduce the issue and that it seemed to be tied to the resolution of the image. It happens on 24 megapixel images but not the 6 megapixel test images they tried. Their developers are looking into the issue but haven't gotten back to me.

Good to hear they acknowledge the bug and are working on it. It just got worse on my end where there is now no part of the thumb showing at all. Also, none of the images I have tried it on were beyond 20MB.

Update: They've determine that it's a combination of a relatively high image resolution and your browser window being wider than ~1244 pixels. It's going to be a low priority fix on their end since it doesn't actually break the functionality of the zoom overview, other than the obvious of not showing you where you are in the image. You are still able to use it to pan around. They're going to try to fix it for the next release but it might end up getting pushed to the next.

Thanks, Aaron. I can live with the delay, and the reduced functionality for now. I can tell you that it did work perfectly a while back with the same size images and the same browser and same large browser window size (I use a 1920 wide screen). Something changed on their end a week or more ago.

In case it will help me when I discuss with PicMonkey, can you describe your workflow that involves PicMonkey? What kind of edits are you doing? How often do you use PicMonkey?

I'm uploading 9-15MB photos into a SM gallery. I then make a copy of that photo to same gallery. I open that SM-copied photo to the SM/PicMonkey editor. I am using the largest of the three sizes offered. I use a variety of their tools. In none of the recent opened photos in PM can I see the full photo in the bottom right thumbnail representation. Editing functions seem to work fine other than the thumbnail being messed up (either all grayed out or a tiny portion of the photo being shown full thumb size (see screenshots above). Edited photo is saved as a copy at largest offered size.

Up until a week ago I was using PM a few times per day.
