Lightroom plugin - upscaling

Is there a particular reason why the smugmug lightroom plugin no longer allows upscaling?

I would like to upload photos that are all the same size, but sometimes that means some will need to be upscaled a bit.

The LR plugin should still enlargen photos for you. In the Publish Settings you can choose "Image Sizing" and set the dimensions as you'd like. Make sure the "Don't Enlarge" box is NOT checked or it won't upscale

I was about to post the same thing but tried it first. mwink.gif

When you do that, it pops up a warning, and checks that box for you.

I found no way to get past that, it insists on not upscaling.

Having never tried upscaling in the past I have no idea whether this is new or original behavior, but it does seem to be actively preventing upscaling.

Yep. And it is quite annoying. :)

According to the change log, the change to prevent upscaling came about in version 3.0.0.0 of the plugin. But there is no explanation as to why it was changed.

I'm not Smugmug but I can make up that answer -- they don't want to store more data than they need, and uses like printing will upscale also.

    But then again I'm a cynic. nod.gif

Can I get some more information on why you would want to upscale your images? Don't they look worse when you upscale them?

I don't always upscale. To keep my workflow consistent between jobs, I just have everything set to file/upload at 3000 px on long side. Some files get downscaled, some get upscaled, all depends on the crop. But to upscale from 2000 to 3000 in LR doesn't show any loss of quality in my experience.

I would really like an option to not ever downscale, only upscale files less than 3000px.

I'd still like to understand why you would want to upscale the images? What doesm upscaling the images provide? Is it so watermarks are the same size? Something else?
