Diary of a Newbie: What I learned at the reception

I thought I'd keep a running diary of things that I learned at the reception. I'll keep adding photos as they are ready for posting.

Lesson #1: Don't be afraid to rush in and fuss with clothing???

This is the (best of 3) "grand entrance" photo. They and their wedding party had just gotten to the the venue after 45 minutes of cruisin' and boozin' in the limo. I've taken out parts of the door jamb and softened the lantern behind. I brightened the picture, whitened teeth and cropped it.

I hate, hate, hate the way that his vest is askew. . . but it does convey the mussed look of getting out of the limo (note champagne bottle).

My main goal was to get them looking nice and having fun-- the pictures will go in an album as my wedding gift to them, along with a CD with the rest of them.

I'm having a hard time discerning the tones in the picture-- I lightened some of the stuff but I had to be careful not to lighten her skin tone much, as she has olive undertones in it.

My cousin is getting married in June and I know his mother expects me to bring my camera (even though she KNOWS I do mostly sports) and because I don't want to bad I'm very interested in everyone else's techniques and findings.

I think for what appears to be very low light you did a great job of getting a nicely focused image. And, I do have to say the groom appears to be enjoying that champange!

I hope you don't mind I attempted DavidTOs "Pop" Tutorial on the image you posted...

Would like to see more pics when you have time. Yes, one of the main things in being a photographer is making sure everything is straighten out. From nothing on the face, nose...(yuck...sorry had to put that in)...to jewerly and hair in place. Years ago I had my portrait made and didn't notice that my earring was missing...the photographer brushed back my hair and said..."do you normally wear just one earring??" Wow I was impressed with him.

So anyway...love to see more when you have time.

I don't see any real distinct colour in this image??
Im assuming the groom is wearing black? but it doesn't look black it looks like the entire image has a haze over it??
Is it possible its the way you've uploaded it that it doesn't look right???

There is very little color, but the haze is there on my screen as well. The test prints are clear and crisp, thank goodness.
