This time it is Ameles decolor, one of the small running mantids that was posing for me. Normally they are very fast, but this one obliged.

    It make a pleasant change to see a brown mantid.

    What is going on at its hind feet?

    What is going on, is that it is gripping one of the tiny little snails that characterize the Provence and the Camargue.

    Think of it as a hard, crunchy sort of security blanket, I guess.
