I just did a impromptu e session for some co workers. I am going to shoot their small backyard wedding and went to the house to see the location and the near by park were we are going to do a walk-about in the morning. The temp was way above 90 and humidity about 80 and it was 1:00. All things bad for photos and melting people. Mike even had a slight sunburn the next day.

Total time from 1st to last photo 20min.

Let me know what you think, any help would be great.

You have some shots that are better than others, but pretty much all of them have big issues. There is a lot of awkward posing, dappled light, blown highlights, and distracting elements. Sorry to be so critical, but I'd rather try to help you understand what went wrong than try to sugarcoat it.

    Thanks Ben

For sure 1 and 2 are in harsh light. In 1 I softened it up to see if it would be usable. We stopped about 5 times for photos and took no time for posing just move a hand and a turn of the head. My wife did not like the tree across 7 and 8, but I kinda like 8 because of Olga's big smile. About the dabbled light, I feel it looks natural but I may consider fill next time to lessen it or find better shade. If you look at Mike's eyes in 10 11 and 12, the catch lights are from the buildings near the park in full sun. The short trip was to see the park, but the photos were to show what can be in a short time and to get them to relax a little.

Couple of quick thoughts....I like the lighting in three best, but would like the photo more if her purse were not there, and if the crop hadn't created a visual amputation.
Checking the properties, it looks like you did use flash on some that still look dappled, so it seems you needed more flash power, someone holding a large reflector to shade them, or to just find some solid shade from a building.

E sessions are so much easier than wedding day pics in that you have control of the timing- Shooting when the sun is much lower on the horizon is a good option to get the most flattering light.

Yep Good thing I took the photos. Olga just about closes her eyes during a big smile, and her rt eye seems to closed first or more. Any one have an hints on how to deal with that? Other then having her closed her eyes for all photos, Laughing.gif.

Olga and Mike did not have any engagement photos done, so if just one of the photos works for them then that's a good thing.

Yes. Never use a soft filter. There are virtually no situations where that helps. You can always recreate that effect by hand in Photoshop without the unwanted side effects of a soft filter.
