Red Filters for Underwater Photography

Water absorbs long light wavelengths first, and hence we loose red colors when we photograph on a scuba dive.

I often see red filters for cameras and video cameras advertized. I don't think they are a good idea - basically, these filters correct only for one level of red light absorption, and that can change massively with depth, visibility, and sunlight. I argue the point in more detail on my blog. I think software-aided red correction is much more useful and produces better effects.
