    A few more I hope you'll enjoy. Notice the nictitating membrane covering the eye of the juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron in the first shot. The membrane appears to magnify the detail in the iris of this heron. Nictitiating is of Latin origin (nictare) and means "to blink." These herons let me get extremely close!

    Second last shot of seagull is fab light! Which is mostly good in all of them but that one jumps out.....cheers Tony!

    Thanks! I always appreciate your comments. What I most enjoyed about the Western Gull photo is that it was taken on a municipal wharf with a nearly constant flow of visitors passing between us. I'm fortunate the gull remained unperturbed. It's also another reason I especially enjoy portrait style captures. If all goes well, there's an intimacy between the lens, light and the subject that captures and conveys a sense of solitude when if fact the scene and busy environment was anything but!
