Carrizo Gorge - A Harsh Landscape

Not a tree in-sight, but I think this place has an attractive, harsh, natural beauty.
The large structure is the Goat Canyon Trestle - 10 miles from the trail head and
described as the longest curved wooden railroad trestle in the world... built circa 1919.
Ride included traversing about 10 tunnels from several hundred feet long to 1/2 mile - lights required.

I'm enjoying these, Eric. It does look harsh, but beautiful.

Thanks for commenting boco... Google Translate says that you would have liked to have seen more "air"
I'm going to assume you wrote "sky"? thumb.gif

Thanks Jeff! It's a little different than your region, huh?
As for the ride - it was fun, but my knuckles are still a whiter shade of pale... :D

Thanks, glad you like 'em Don - probably reminds you a bit of your region - this area of San Diego County always reminds me of my days living in Arizona - especially this day, with the transparent sky and warm, bright sun.

    Thanks Ian.
Dang, I miss Huell - he was a gem, and left us way too soon. :cry
There are a couple of abandoned, rusting, train cars at the big trestle, and
someone has spray-painted a RIP to Huell on one... I hate graffiti, but somehow, it seems OK this time.

Thanks Joel - to be honest, rumor has it that The-Powers-That-Be would rather folks not visit the place rolleyes1.gif - be forewarned.
Interestingly and currently, there is a troubled attempt to put this rail line back in-service (it's been abandoned for years)
moving manufactured goods from the southern termination in Mexico, into the US - I think it would be cool to photograph trains on the trestles again.
