Color Effects - photos don't show up in IE

I was trying to do some work on some galleries from work today, and had to use IE, which I never use at home. I wanted to do "Color Effects" on some photos (one at a time) and so clicked on that tool. However, each photo simply displayed a red "X"... no thumbnail or preview photo of any size was visible. (so the various color effects could not be viewed at all.) I don't know what OS the work computer uses. But I came home & tried the same thing here with IE and Vista, and had the same problem. Got the red Xes again. With FF, the Color Effects tool works fine. I don't know what those red Xes mean or if it's been happening for a long time, but the tool is unusable in IE when it's that way.

    Hi,

Can you please check that your java is up to date in IE9. Please go to this page and click on "do I have java":

    http://java.com/en/

Please also check your flash is up to date in IE9:

    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Please post if the above doesn't work,

    Shay.

Thanks, Shay. Both Java and Flash did need updating. I did that, but still having the issue. I haven't restarted the computer though; perhaps that will help? And I didn't need to actually be in IE while doing the update, right? I was in FF when I read this, and updated via your links, but in FF (had to restart FF, according to the instructions, which I did.) Well, meanwhile, I'll re-start the computer.

Anna Lisa, something else is going on in your system. I just checked and IE on Vista, and IE on Win7, both color effect tools are working perfectly. Please write our heroes with links to the gallery you're working on and we'll take it from there.

We-ell, here's what happened: I updated IE as well, and also went through IE to get the Flash & Java updates, as someone else told me I should do that. Shut down the computer, etc. etc... but still was getting the red Xes in place of actual photos in the Color Effects tool. However, then I clicked on an "Auto-color" by accident, on one of the photos I couldn't even see. Lo & behold, all the color versions showed up! I then went back to the gallery. I returned to the tool again in several different galleries, and now the photos are all visible... no red Xes anywhere! So... I still don't know what the cure was, and it's odd that I actually had to select a color-correction for the display to work. But... whatever... at least here at home, it works now. (It's sort of all a moot point as I always use FF anyway, but you never know when you may need another browser for some reason). I'll let you know when I find out if it works now on the computer at work.
