Dull Day Harvestman

Did find a harvestman this morning, but it was very dull really and had to ramp the ISO up to 5000 and to 6400 which meant running NR to get rid of the lumpy bits. Came out OK though I think. What do you think?

Ahhh, a nice example of the Opiliones order depicting a nice view of the solitary pair of eyes and the fused cephalothorax. Okay, I had to look that up!! The minimal noise after NR in the gray toned background does not distract from the very nicely colored subject which displays even less noise. The macro quality looks great here IMO.

Very nice composition and sharply focused. thumb.gif

I did the same research 5 years ago Wayne - so I'll let you off, lol... :)

The lens is the new Venus 2:1 lens - IQ on it is remarkably sharp, I'm very impressed with how cuttingly sharp it is under the best conditions.

There's a nice review of that lens here:

I prefer the second shot, as the mouthparts are a huge part of what a predator is all about.

The nikonrumours review does not impress me. That you can see the facets on an insect eye is hardly the Gold Standard!

I have been trying to get some sense out of the Venus makers about the actual FOV. The magnification at the sensor is all very well if the sensor size is specified. I got a message back about a 100mm lens giving the view on m4/3 of a 200mm lens, but nothing about the field of view of their lens. I thanked then for the information I work with daily and tried again. I await a second reply.

I know that my "1:1" Kiron 105mm gives a FOV 17.5mm wide at closest focus. I don't know that information for the Venus.

Thank you kindly Harold. The way the legs create a frame gives it a better composition too I think.
