Way to keep custom-cropped square thumbs from reverting?

I'm confused about what I should do to avoid this problem: I have a gallery that I had made all the settings that are quickly made while originally creating the gallery ("My portfolio", under the "Portfolio" tab). I set it at square thumbs. Then I custom-cropped a bunch of them, because of cut-off heads or whatever. Eventually, when I went into the full customization box, I had to save some other settings but didn't change the "square thumbs" setting. Later I found my thumbs were re-cropped. Surely there's some way to make other changes & save the settings without affecting custom pre-cropped thumbs, right?

Question 2: I also have to change my watermarking all over the site to my new watermark. Is there a way to do this on tens of galleries at a time, or must I go one gallery at a time?

Question 3: Is there any way to save custom-cropped thumbs (generally, square ones are the only ones I custom-crop) while exchanging one watermark for another?
