No Northern Lights...Night Shots instead

I went out to see if I could capture the Norther Lights, Aurora borialis, which were supposed to be visible much further south than usual. Unfortunately, I didn't see anything of the sort. So, I had a go at capturing some night shots, long exposures, etc. I've never done night shots before, so how do you think this turned out?

It was completely dark (well, obviously not, but you know what I mean) when I took this one...

Your off to a decent start. One is a nice wide angle shot result and has
great color. Images 2... well... its a start and you did capture Venus and
a little bit of other ok.

You have a another great opportunity to shoot more night shots, this time
of meteors and a planet alignment in the night sky/early morn sky of August 12-13, 2010.

For info if you don't already have it can be found at...

Sky charts for direction in sky to look and so forth. Dress warm.
Check the gear bag twice. Pray for clear enough skies for good things to happen.

Too bad the Northern Lights didn't show up for you but one day they will.
We rarely get them here but I still watch spaceweather every day for
whats happening. My last Aurora shots were around 2001 and I missed
a couple of other nights since then to my disappointment. Cloudy skies
will wreck it most everytime. :D

Thanks, I was pleased with my first atempts at night shots / long exposure so as you say, it wasn't wasted.

    Cheers
