Getting up close with hummingbirds

While trying to get into shooting just for fun, I thought that I would revisit one of my favorite non-work subjects, hummingbirds.

Being in northern California we get a few varieties, some being locals and some migratory.

As most know these little birds fly fast and can be shy, especially around people, cameras and flashes going off. I have spent quite a bit of time with them and they learn to trust relatively quickly which makes getting images slightly easier.

Here are a few of my favorites:

and of course rewarding them for allowing me to take their shots.

I love the motion in the second photo, and I'm in awe of having a hummingbird perch on a finger.

The first one is an Anna and the other is a Rufous. Getting them to land on me was much easier than getting them used to the flash going off.

Pretty nice shots of the Hummingbirds. Love the one with landing on the finger, these birds are always a joy to capture.
