Reno Rodeo Cattle Drive

I've been fortunate to have been asked to do the photography for the Reno Rodeo Cattle Drive the past 2 years. On the drive, the guests and the 'real' cowboys drive ~300 head of cattle 90 miles into the Reno Rodeo center, where they are actually used in the Reno Rodeo. The drive is 5 days long, and a lot of fun. It's a great way to see not only how things were done back in the days of the 'old west', but also how they are still done today. Here are some of the photos:

Riding drag (back of the herd) was a pretty dirty task:

All shot with a canon 30d, most with the 24-105L. Toughest part of doing this was trying to keep dust out of the camera and trying not to fall off my horse or drop the camera from the horse.

Thanx for looking. Comments/critiques always welcomed. Kevin.

Beautiful images of an extraordinary event. I had the pleasure of riding with the Reno Rodeo Cattle Drive several years ago while I was with the Washoe County Search and Rescue Mounted Unit. Once they came in close to city limits we rode with them all the way into downtown Reno. It is quite an event with the drive even going through a residential area with everyone looking out their apartment windows. Thank you for sharing these. #1 all the way!

Very nicely captured - you were willing to put your 30D into a situation where I would have probably opted to use my wife's camera!!

    Thanks for sharing these.

Thanx everyone for the comments, I'm glad you enjoyed the photos.

Today, ESPN.com ran a story on the cattle drive and used my photos - it's kind of fun seeing your own stuff on a national website (sorry, I hope this wasn't 'bragging' too much - I just had to tell someone:D)

Here's the link to the story: http://sports.espn.go.com/rodeo/general/news/story?id=3986295
