Hi - here's a HDR version of my previously submitted "Below-the-Pier". I was quite surprised with the difference and considered it worthwhile to share.
Location: Underneath Southwold Pier, Southwold, Suffolk, UK.
Note - it was a single photo taken in fine jpeg quality that has been transformed using Photomatix software.

Equipment: D50 + Nikon 18-200VR @34mm, aperture f/22, shutter speed 1/10 & ISO 200.

Minor sharpening / cropping applied. Otherwise, only the standard HDR conversion process using Photomatix. Thanks for commenting.

It really looks great and I love the conversion effect that the pillars have.

Love the shot, but to me, the wood planks look almost artificial, like they have been photoshopped in. There isn't enough contrast as you would expect...perhaps adding back in some shadow or contrast to the planks, and it would really look more 'natural'

Such is a common artifact of HDR, n'est ce pas?

I still like the photo. Great colors, certainly cheerier than any of the pillars on piers I have walked beneath.

The photo looks very slightly tilted I think? Which is not really a problem for me since I am afraid of the ocean and usually get a bit dizzy standing this close to it.

But it could just be natural warping of the wood.

pretty dramatic change and a cool result! i like how there is sort of a glow coming from the pilings. the one thing i would try to change is the greyish sky color on the left side of the photo... looks like it was blown out white in the original so i guess the conversion brought it down to grey? i dont really have any experience using photomatix so not sure how much control you have. anyway i think i would prefer a lighter sky color as the grey makes it look a bit fake or posterized or something.

Intersting shot. I like the composition as it takes your eye through the picture.
