Call for Cultural Collaborators:
The Faith Quilt Project is a 3 year effort to bring together quilt artists and faith communities to create quilts that express what their faith means to them and explain it to the wider world. In April 2006 an exhibition of the quilts will open at the Boston Center for the Arts' Cyclorama for a 4 day run. In addition to the environment that the quilts will create, this exhibition will incorporate events from the whole artistic community. Hopes are that Greater Boston artists and cultural groups will plan special programming in which faith is viewed through the portal of art. Our friend, Tim Kiely, is looking for a volunteer photographer:
Sophia Academy of Providence, RI needs someone to photograph their annual fund
raiser. It will be held on Saturday, April 30 from 6:30-9:30 PM at the
Textron Hangar at the T. F. Green Airport in Providence.

"Founded in 1991, Sophia Academy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit,
non-denominational private middle school serving girls from low-income
families in Providence. The mission of Sophia Academy is to create a holistic learning community
in the Greater Providence area for girls from low income families, and,
in an atmosphere of non-violence, to focus on the academic, spiritual,
cultural, and social growth of the girls and their families.
Of our students currently enrolled at Sophia Academy, 100% meet our
financial need criteria; 100% of the students are eligible for school
free breakfast and 98% are eligible for free school lunch.
Sophia Academy is not a charter school; we depend solely on grants and
donations to fund our program. Our students pay tuition in the range of
$5.00 to $45.00 per month, not nearly enough to cover the $7,000 per
year tuition cost."

They do not have a web site, but I can fax their newsletter if you'd
like to see it. While Sophia Academy cannot pay the photographer, it is an great chance
to meet members of Providence's art, social-services, and business
communities. Also, the event will be coverred by the Providence Journal
and the volunteer photographer will be able to submit their photos to
the newspaper.

If someone is interested, but does not have transportation, I could
drive them from Boston.
