    Great!

Filmstrip looks quite interesting; however, the arrows--to me at least--are counter-intuitive. I'd expect to point on the right arrow to scroll right.

Hmm, this is how it works for me in every browser I've tested (IE6, Firefox 1.0 on Windows & Mac, Firefox 1.5 on Windows and Mac, and Safari on the Mac).

Does yours go left when you mouse over the right arrow? Anyone else seeing this?

Great stuff!! Thanks for adding <head>-tags to customization! This'll eliminate the need to use illegal stuff in the body in my language changer! Also love the idea with the message center.
With the harvest theme going online does this mean my fall theme is out of the race or not? Maybe there's something I should or is it ok? Tell me what you think. I'd like a straight answear on this as I haven't heard anything from Ben for a while. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/ne_nau.gif&quot; border="0" alt="" > I'm guessing Ben maybe was on holiday as he hadn't even time to update the found-on-smugmug blog. :D
*doh* Now I did reread the last post and got the meaning of the first sentence!
"Later today I am leaving for a little over a week to the Virgin Islands, so there won’t be any updates until after Thanksgiving." (from here)
I guess I was so drawn to the pictures that I just scanned over the text... :D

Whatever - maybe someone could still give me an answear what the status of my theme is.

    Thanks,
    Sebastian

Okay, I tested it on IE6, Opera 8.5, Firefox 1.0.6, Netscape 7.2. When I point on the right arrow the new pictures come in from the left side and the old ones therefore go out to the right in all browsers. I agree that this should be the opposite way - right arrow=photos coming in from the right.

Apart from that - it doesn't work for me at all in IE6. I can hit the arrow ones, but when I then hover a little over the pictures or hold the mouse over the other one the script crashes like this:
    Line:200
    Char:6
    Code:0
    Error:Objekt erforderlich (object needed)
    URL:http://rainforest1155.smugmug.com/gallery/934206

When this happens the left-most picture or the one that was supposed to scroll-in just disappears. It even crashed ones directly after it was loaded.
A friend of mine also uses IE6 on Win2000 and for him it seems to work. Except that it takes a lot of CPU power. Some times pictures sort of swap in IE6, but I can't seem to figure out what swapes with what as it keeps crashing and I never know where I am in my own gallery (see requests some lines later)
Update info: my IE6 IE6 of my friend -- mine is newer, but crashes umph.gif

In all the other browsers it seems to work, but it takes all CPU in Opera.

Now some requests apart from bugs:
    • comments!!, image info (keywords!, filename etc) are not shown - even though there should be plenty of room below the pictures
    • navigation: just having viewed a gallery with 30 pictures in it I find it hard to know where I am as the thing doesn't stop to scroll at all - imagine this in a gallery with 300 pictures. Even though it looks cool scrolling all the time - I would prefer it to just scroll when I put the mouse on one of the arrows - this would also help people with slow machines getting the upper hand over their CPU load
    • ever seen a strip without a beginning and an end? You can't even count on the javascript-link shown in the statusbar when holding your mouse over a picture - it shows the same 7 numbers all the time. So I would like to see a marking indicating start and end.
    • Even better would be a small number over the pictures or at least make a popup while holding the mouse over a picture
Now enough with the ranting - this is a really good idea which just needs some tweaking!! clap.gif

    Thanks,
    Sebastian

It took active-x being turned on for filmstrip to work in IE. I also think the direction seems counter-intuitive. It is a nice feature, but it doesn't work correctly yet.

Rainforest also reports what I did earlier in another thread... text is not readable in captions. It is there alright, but black on black background and white text on white background. Comments are gone too. In fact, at the smugmug help site, the text is also invisible. This all began when the new features appeared on the 27th. There is something that overwrites the color of text in IE.

I also reported (in the same thread as David_S85) that Captions and other items show up as black on black. This is in the standard "Smugmug" theme. I am using Safari 1.2.3 on Mac OS 10.3.5. If I switch the color of the theme to "White", the Captions etc. become White on white and still unreadable. The Bio shows up as black on very dark gray and is just barely readable.

    Hope this helps,

headscratch.gif I have no problems with the captions or any other text in accounts to readability. There are just some items not shown, like comments and imageinfo in the filmstrip view.
I've seen your other thread and the pictures - never had this problem though. ne_nau.gif

    Am I missing something?

I just dragged out this old version of Mozilla 1.5 for the Mac. Using this browser the Smugmug site looks the same as it did prior to today. So whatever changes were made yesterday effect, for my mac, the Safari browser, but not Mozilla. In Safari, the bio text shows up as black on dark gray and is almost unreadable. In Mozilla, the text shows up as white on dark gray as is easy to read.

The same situation occurs, as David_S85 pointed out, in the help text. Looking at the first screen after clicking on Help, the "Click 1:" shows up, but not the text after it (when using Safari). For Mazilla, the text after "Click 1:" shows up as white text on black as is easy to read.

The problem appears to be the way text is displayed for the smaller html sizes (or maybe it's the color used for that size). The text "Click 1:" is gray in both browsers. But the following smaller text size shows up as black on a black background in Safari and white on a black background in Mozilla.

Before today, the text in all sizes showed up correctly in Safari.

Harvey, it's not a SmugMug issue - see the other thread I posted some screen shots from Safari.

I'll dig around and see if I can find Safari prefs that cause this.

Thanks a lot, Andy. I responded to you on the other thread with a screen shot of what I see with Safari. I hadn't thought about prefs as a possible explanation. That could well explain the problem and might even help David_S85 who is having the same problem on a Windows system.

I notice in my Safari prefs (advanced) that for "Style sheet" I have "None selected" Could you perhaps have some Style sheet that correctly interprets the html?

    Thanks,

Can someone cut and paste the source code and send it to me in a PM? I can't replicate the problem here using Safari.

Hm, first time it crashed 1 second after the site was loaded.
On my second try I moved the mouse slowly down and hovered over the 3rd picture from the right and as the alt-tag poped up the script crashed - this time the 2nd picture from the right disappeared instead of always the most-left.
The 3rd try immideately crashed after loading with the left-most picture disappearing...
From my side not much change. I tried it on this gallery.

    Journal Medium; Journal Large
Filmstrip is kinda cool, but I would still like to see Journal Medium, Journal Large options... that should be easy. Also, let me set how many pics/page in Journal mode, I like scrolling through my pics without hitting Next, Next...:):

    Filmstrip better now
Filmstrip moves left when you're pointing left and right when you're pointing right. Much better.

Also, the broken image thing (missing images) doesn't show anymore. On a less than 6 pic gallery, the strip just sits there. Cliking the thmbnail strip image only reloads it again for display - expected behavior. Getting there!

    Thanks.

Thanks for your efforts!! As I said on page one: It's gotta be one of the hotfixes I've got (my IE6) and my friend doesn't have (IE6 of my friend). But I'm not going down the road of trying to get rid of one after another - that would take forever and I already deleted the uninstaller stuff.
If it works for others then I'm okay with it - I can use another browser if I really need to view a gallery this way - the feature itself is really great.

Better spend your time on the suggestions I gave on page one and not on my silly IE anymore! thumb.gif

No. The images appear from the left and disappear to the right when I mouse over the right arrow.

Sebastion described it quite well, as did bigwebguy.

I also agree with Sebastion that it should only scroll during mouse-over.

    Thanks,

Today I also found a use for this smiley - it's really relieving. :D
Actually I haven't found a better browser then Maxthon which uses IE6, yet! The functionality is just right and I'm so used to it - can't give up even one of the neat features. ne_nau.gif
Also had no major security problems yet - with the correct software running and properly configured. mwink.gif
Having tasted the web developers side already, I can the frustration of the web designers, but still can't let go. Even though Opera 8.5 comes really close - maybe I should check out the new beta, but bummer that it isn't really supported by smugmug (discovered an issue with smugmaps)

    So long! iloveyou.gif

JT, whatever they're paying you, you deserve even more for turning this issue around so fast. I hope you get some overtime for this one.

I'll check it out on Mrs. D_S85's IE6 tomorrow, but for now, we're even up and running happy in IE5.5!!!

Did you know you were fixing it for IE5.5? That dreaded horrible buggy version? Well, it works again. White on black and in the reverse too.

    Fantastic!

For me, and for the other (dozen or so) people on the planet that this font color thing affected - a hearty THANK YOU! thumb.gif

And as I was telling Andy, the new dual-core box is sitting right behind me almost ready to come to life. I may even have Firefox on it sometime next month.

And that'll bring the world wide IE5.5 user base down to eleven. :uhoh
