1Dx, dust magnet?
I just got mine about 4 weeks ago and I've seen more damn dust appear on my sensor than my 5DII in the last year. I don't know if it's just because it's new or what, but it's just crazy how much dust is on the sensor. And yes, when I change lenses, the camera is faced toward the ground.... Anyone else???

Are you a member of CPS? If so, send the body in for a free cleaning. Depending on the CPS level you may also be entitled to a free loaner body.

If not, simply clean the sensor yourself.

It's possible that the dust is coming from the body itself, and in that case it should subside after some use.

At what aperture is the dust visible?

I am a CPS member, but since when do the offer Free cleanings? I had 2 coupons and misplaced them.. found out, they are basically like Cash. CPS doesn't track them, you loose them, you are screwed. :(

Dust is visible anything past 5.6

I wonder if the self-cleaning mechanism could have failed.

Kdog-

I question that myself, so I'm sending it to CPS next week to have a look at it...

Sometimes sensors have lot of dust on them when the camera comes from the factory. So perhaps you were just unlucky with the unit you got.

Every time I turn it on or off, it shows cleaning.. so I doubt it would say that if it was off...
