This is no reflection on the wonderful winning image, but I have to say that I find the voting this time around utterly bewildering. Please accept this comment in the spirit in which it is given, that of an experience photographer who has had many highs and lows in competitions over the years, just trying to be honest.

If anyone wants to suggest that I'm moaning out of sour grapes then they may want to duck as my reply could be rather strong, this has nothing to do with my own entry. I think we all know when we've got a strong image or not for a particular challenge, and we can generally predict how the voting will go, but this time I am genuinely stunned, sorry

CONGRATS, WhatSheSaw! Awesome work.

I NEVER can predict how the voting will go, TBH, John. I guess am VERY bad at guessing how other people think; especially since an incredibly small percentage leave comments to indicate what they think of an image. There were only 44 people voting this round(which in and of itself is a bit disturbing), and the most comments anyone received, via a quick look, seems to be 5.

I look at the quality of the topic's execution first, and then the quality of the photo/technique, etc. I also don't always USE my 10 votes, if I don't feel that they should all be used.

I come here on announcement day almost EVERY time, almost as often surprised not by the winners as by the ones that receive very few votes.

That being said, this winning entry satisfies the criteria I use!

Wow! Thanks to everyone who voted for my shot. I am always hopeful, but never expect to win. There were some really exceptional shots in the gallery.

John, no offense taken. I find voting to be quite unpredictable. I have had shots I was proud of not do very well at all. Sometimes, they were a stretch for the theme or not obviously on theme. And I have seen challenges where my favorite shot (someone else's) did not do well. I saw something in it that most others did not.

Sorry to be a bit subdued, winning was a bright spot in an otherwise sobering week.

from someone who watches the polls progress very closely, the first and second place were neck and neck till the last day. Note that there is only 4 votes that separate them? That is a close run if you ask me! Its never really predictable. There were many great images to choose from this round!

Congratulations WhatSheSaw! I too had the felling that this will be the winner.

It looks like you are the best photographer ever at Dgrin - I don't remember anyone else winning the Mega twice.

Thanks for the nice comments, Tatiana! Paul Thomas McKee has also won twice. There are so many great photographers here and I have so much to learn, that I really don't feel like the best. Participating consistently in the challenges and all of the wonderful feedback I have gotten have really contributed to my growth as a photographer. So thanks to all of you who participate and comment!

Congratulations Karin! Awesome winning image - simple but so telling, great focus & lighting (& apparently coming at a good time too!)! Also a great runner up Trish!

And congrats to you both for the winning images in the last 2 challenges (when you're hot, you're hot!)! I've been so swamped I've had no time to comment & didn't have time to even enter the last regular challenge (first miss in a long time). I'm sure summer is a busy time for all & likely why the entries & voting are both down in numbers. & John - I can never tell on the voting, sometimes it's just as I thought it would go & sometimes it's not.

A big kudos to all who commented too!
