Here are three simple tutorials we hope will encourage you to try something new.

The Hot Seat

A lifelong interest in landscape photography has led Eyal Oren to make a study of his adopted hometown of Marblehead, MA. As you can see, his dedication is paying off!

Cool shot - the setting and background highlight the bug nicely.
All I ever knew about Dragonflies I learned on DGrin because you just don't see them too often in SoCal - there's very little surface water here.

Thanks Eric, I think this shot is more about the composition than the bug. Glad you liked it.

I do like what you got going on and you have used "the rules" to have that much going on well. Still there seems something lacking for me. Is it more grass and OOF background than there needs to be?
Is the balance on overall with the blades of grass? Can the right frame carry the left? Left frame seems open and the right has the vertical grass reaching the top closing it. hmmm Looking at the shot as is I'd think there would be plenty thats right enough to carry the day. Mystery to me just now .
Just to check it, I did a vertical crop with dragonfly 2/3rds up and 5/8ths right approx, upped the blacks a bit. Kicked the vibrance up to taste. A possible perhaps. Or maybe just a working variation on an already decent shot.

We do love the dragonflys too.
