Search Engine Optimization
I'm trying to work on my Search Engine Optimization and I know I have a lot of work to do. First thing is how long does it typically take google to update their meta data. I changed mine I don't know how long ago and nothing has changed in my keywords underneath my website were you search for it. The next question I have which is more relavent to smugmug is at the end of every link you see all those numbers like with this link http://www.k-ophotography.com/galler...2421&k=4fkWbvf from what I understand thats pointing to the picture my question is is there away to change that to make it say what the picture is so say for instance thats a picture of the Golden Gate bridge so my website link would then be for an example "www.k-ophotography/gallery/goldengatebridge" and if they click on a large version it would be "www.k-ophotography/gallery/goldgatebridge=L" and so on. I personally think that looks a lot nicer and then all those numbers and letters but this might not be something I can change I don't know thats why I come to you guys. Anyways thanks in advance for any help!

Keith

The gallery URL includes the photo id and key. I'm not aware of any way to change that.

You're trying to improve search engine optimization, but there is very little text on your site. Have you thought about adding gallery descriptions? Photo keywords and captions will also help.

Also - you've removed the breadcrumb without replacing it with anything else. This means that your viewers have no idea what gallery they are viewing. See Are you really sure you want to hide the breadcrumb? Think of your viewers!

Hey Denise,
Thank you very much for your response yeah I had a feeling I wouldn't be able to change it thought I'd see if there was a chance. I think keywords and captions might be the things I need to work on the most. I do appreciate any and all feedback.

Follow Question and maybe I'll write a new form if I have to about this but if I do start doing keywords is there a code I can put in my advance code where it hides it from viewers but search engines still pick up on it. Call my crazy but I'm just trying to keep my website as clean looking as I can and rather not have all these keyword below my photo's. Denise or anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I don't recommend hiding the keywords, but if you must - you can hide the photo keywords with this CSS:
Code:
#photoKeywords { display: none; }
If you want the right type of attention from search engines, don't hide the keywords. From the Google Webmaster page at http://support.google.com/webmasters...n&answer=66353:

Hiding text or links in your content can cause your site to be perceived as untrustworthy since it presents information to search engines differently than to visitors.

I had the same problem with wanting to add text to my pages on the WordPress side of my site so I can be found more easily by the SE's. I was told by a web designer that as long as the text is not the identical color (HTML #) of the background, then you should be fine. It will be so faint that it won't be visible to your viewers, but will still be captured by the SE's. It took several tries to find the shade that was the least visible on mine. Give that a try and see what you think.
