Not sure where I should post this.....picking my way thru....

ok sometimes I want to put my watermark on photos in general or some text that i have saved.....not just to SM...I understand how the batch watermark thing works in elemtsnts but Im not talking about that or the SM watermark process.

can I type some text on a photo in elements and then just save it somehow (where it keeps all the elements formatting) so I can access anytime to add on to other photos during other sessions? (I know I can just copy/paste during the same session but I have to re-create the entire thing every time I start elements...and this is soooo time consuming.)

Again, As I stated above, I am not referring to the SmugMug watermarking feature..this is an PS Elements question.....and I was not sure where to post....thanks

if you use text it becomes a layer
this layer can be saved as .PSD
open it , next to your photo , and select it

you import it again via ; copy ,then go to your photo ; edit / paste special / paste in place
now its a layer that you can position and modify

How do I save the layer as a .psd? I see the layer in the layers palette but it doesnt give me an option to save it.....

also i dont understand "open it, next to my photo"....how? ( I am just learning elements)

you disable the layers you dont want ( click the eye-icon )
in menu save as ; .......PSD
thats all

open your photo
open the .PSD if not allready open
they appear as 2 tabs
in the image with your text layer : select all > copy
go to the tap of your photo
edit > paste special > paste in place
its a new layer now

BTW you can do this also for other items , not just text
if you want an image in it , just add it as a layer
you can have as many as you want
this way , you can have several different "watermarks" in one .PSD
just click the eye-icons to hide/reveal

OK great - I got it saved....when I open both they dont open as two "tabs" just two photos (one is the text) down in the project bin....is that right?

then I choose SELECT - ALL and then had to EDIT and COPY (doesnt let you right click)

and then I went to the photo and had to EDIT and PASTE....it does not give me the option to PASTE SPECIAL.

The text comes in but it does not allow me to reposition or modify the layer in any way other than the opacity. (I have elements 9 if that makes a diff)

then simply paste on a new layer , that is the same as "paste in place"

reposition is done with Move-Tool

To me, a much simpler method is to open a new, blank, file and type
in what you want to use. Then, simplify the layer, use the marquee
tool to make a selection of what you've typed, and go to Edit>Define
Brush and name the brush. If you are adding copyright info, the
copyright symbol is (hold down Alt and enter 0169 on the num pad).

Now, on any image, you simple open that brush (it will be in your drop
down list of brushes) and click it once in the area where you want the
type. It will be in the foreground color, but you can add it in any color
by changing the foreground color. You've added the entire text in one click.

When I do this, I first add a new layer (not a copy of the background
layer) and add the text to this new layer. Then, I can go to Transform
and change the size and position of the text. You can also reduce
the opacity of the layer if you want.

You can make a different brush for different type styles. You might
have one just for copyright info in a solid font, and one in an outline
font for copyright info used as a watermark.

I just created a brush with my copyright info and added it to this
image in the lower right. (I don't normally add this to my images.
Anyone who wants to steal one my images is welcome to it)
