Introducing: SmugBuy for WordPress!
Howdy-

Since the new "buy" links were introduced a few days ago I've been working on a WordPress plugin to automagically create the appropriate "buy" link based on the SmugMug photo URL. The link is automatically inserted in your WordPress posts or pages using a shortcode.

I've released the plugin on the WordPress plugin directory, and it can be found here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/smugbuy

The webpage I created for the plugin can be found here: http://chrismartino.com/smugbuy

Thanks!

Chris

My plugin request was approved by the WordPress folks, but I'm still looking for a few testers before I upload it to the directory.

If you're interested please PM me.

Thanks!

Very interesting. Will this plugin link purchase to my Smugmug account so that photo/product will be processed and shipped by Smugmug?

Yes it will. The current version will only link you to the shopping cart for a single photo, however the next version will allow you to insert a "buy" link for a gallery.

If you want to be a beta tester PM me with your email address and I'll send you the plugin.

I'm looking for some feedback before I upload it to the WordPress plugin directory.

Chris,

I am a wordpress hobbyist and my wife is a photographer who has used smugmug for years.

She wants to start marketing a handful of her galleries separate from her full smugmug site. However, she really wants to continue to use the fulfillment side from smugmug.

I got hold of Photocrati and have been playing around but am somewhat frustrated. Then I just found your plugin.

2 quick questions, how do I add a gallery to the site using your plugin, and do you need any additional beta testing?

Regards,

Chip

Hi Chip-

The gallery function of SmugBuy only links to the gallery buy page (vs the photo buy page). For examples of each see my blog: http://chrismartino.com/blog. The gallery buy link can be seen by clicking the "Prints" link at the top right of the page. The photo buy link can be seen my clicking on one of the "Buy Print" links under the photoblog entries.

I'm sure this isn't exactly what you were hoping for. You can use other plugins in conjunction with SmugBuy to do what you think. One such plugin would be "WP SmugMug" which could display the gallery images, and then you can use SmugBuy to add a link under the gallery that says something like "Buy prints from this gallery!".

If you need any more info or help let me know!

Hi Michael-

I visited your blog, and I see the post you're trying to get smugbuy to work on is:

http://photography.longrunpictures.com/2011/06/285/

Which appears to have this photo from smugmug displayed:

http://gallery.longrunpictures.com/T...491701_M7CG6Z5

So, since that is the case you'd use the following shortcode

Code:
[smugbuy photo="http://gallery.longrunpictures.com/TrailRaces-2/Ridgeline-Ramble-2011/17273136_fVxpQ7#1311491701_M7CG6Z5"]
So basically, the shortcode simply uses the url of the photo, just as you'd pass it to a friend or in an email, etc.

That should work for you, if it doesn't let me know- I might have to put in a fix for nested categories/galleries.

I just re-read your post and I realize I didn't answer your other question.

To for an entire gallery's sale page you'd use:

Code:
[smugbuy gallery="http://gallery.longrunpictures.com/TrailRaces-2/Ridgeline-Ramble-2011/17273136_fVxpQ7"]
Basically you'd just lob off everything after and including the "#" in the url as mentioned before.

Thanks Chris,

I'm still a little lost- your link worked fine. Here's exactly what I am trying to do...I am back dating the blog-that is the blog photos have all( more or less) been put into one gallery other/longrun photography on smugmug. When I grab a link from the "share a link" sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. "http://gallery.longrunpictures.com/Other/LongRun-Photography/i-THQRcts/1/L/ridgelineramble2011run-323-L.jpg" this one did not work for me. Dumb question one? Get the url from the "share a link" tab? Dumb Question 2. What is best size to link to for ease and consistency? Dumb question 3. Is a gallery link a better choice( Ithink it is in this case) than a single photo link?

Thank you in advance for your patience.

1) No, don't get the URL from the share a link tab, just use the one that you get on the page of the image that you see and want to "buy". The link I posted above to your gallery is the same one that I used in the shortcode.

2) That's irrelevant unless you use the "display" option, and even then it's purely personal choice and what works best for your blog.

3) That's up to you. If you use other plugins to display an entire gallery's worth of images it would make sense to use the gallery link. If you just want to use a intro image and then link to the gallery buy page you could definitely do that too.

Keep the questions coming...

Two things...THANK YOU! got the links from the "right place" and took a page out of your book/blog and used the gallery link behind a menu item on the site and that is a solution that has eluded me for nearly a year. So pleased with it. If SM could provide image specific email marketing for event photography I would never use another host.

Thank you for the insight, the plug in and the support.

Product Direct
Please forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere. I've searched and could not find an answer.

FYI... I'm a Wordpress newb and trying to set up my photography site.

When linking to my galleries for purchase, the display page defaults to one product: "4x6 Lustre"

Any idea on how to change this to give my clients an option on which product they'd like to purchase?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Bob-

Sorry for taking so long to respond!

On the right side of the screen, right above where you see "4x6 (Lustre)" there should be a button that says "Change Product". Your customer can click on that and select whatever you have set pricing for.

I hope that answers your question, if not let me know...

question from a newbie
Hi there. I'm new to using Wordpress. And I've been searching for a plugin that allows me to showcase my galleries and allow folks to purchase like your plugin seems to do. From what I can tell (I'm still confused with WP itself so I might be over looking it) your plugin only allows you to show and give the option to buy per photo. Right? There isn't an option to apply it to an entire gallery?

I basically want everything that smugmug allows but withing WP,

Hi shadowdancer-

SmugBuy can kind of do what you want. You can get a link to a gallery's buy page, but not display a gallery, if that makes sense. I think there are other wordpress plugins that integrate with SmugMug to display galleries, but I'm not 100% sure. If such a plugin exists you should be able to use it in conjunction with SmugBuy to get what you want.

Let me know if I can help any further...

Chris
