    Is there some secret to the sizes I'm missing? My vertical picture is only displayed at 600 pixels tall and I uploaded it at 700 pixels tall, expecting it to be that size on this page. I uploaded one at 725 tall not too long ago and it displayed at the correct 725. The other vertical pictures in this contest are displayed at 768, so I'm assuming they were larger to begin with and got resized. I'm just not sure why mine did since it's under 768.

    The way the gallery works is: if the image is 768 or larger in height, it will display as XL 1024x768. If it is less than 768 then it will automatically display the next size down L 800x600. Next time just make sure your upload is at least 768 pixels tall.

    My apologies, but I don't see the general discussion thread. Yes, that would make sense if my vertical photo in the last mega challenge didn't display at the same 597X725 in which I posted it. I'll pm you.

    WOW!!! I am totally thrilled!! Thanks to everybody who voted for &/or commented on my shot! Congrats to the rest of the top 5 - Stiff competition!! Great job to all who participated!

    To Sean & the Dgrin family - Thanks for supporting these challenges! I have learned so tremendously much from playing here - the challenges have pushed me to go outside of my comfort zone, to take shots I never would have considered otherwise, encouraged me to do more in pp than I ever thought I could, and to simply see light in a much different way.

    It took me 2 days & a ton of rosin to figure out how to get the rosin to show up in the photo ~ it really is all about the light!! :tough ~ & I simply had to use the violin smiley!

    ***A huge thanks to everyone on this forum who has helped me improve!! & for those of you with no formal photography training who have yet to win - if I can do it, YOU CAN TOO!!

    PS: I had a really hard time not starting this post with: WOW MOM - Look what I did!!
    Now on to the next challenge!

    Woohoo, top 5! I'm really stoked about that, I'm still pretty new to smugmug and dgrin, this was only my 5th contest and getting some recognition from other great photographers makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Or maybe that's the celebratory rum and coke, who can say.

    Always interesting viewing everyones take on the challenge, seeing who gets the votes and reading the comments. Helps understanding of what makes a good photograph - all good for the learning curve.

    Congrats to all this round. I didn't have a chance to vote - work and life in general has a habit of creeping up every once in a while headscratch.gif.

    As a former music teacher, the winner really resonated (pun intended) with me. Nicely done, lkbart!

    After some equipment issues, I'm hoping to be back in this round... Had a mishap with a 50D and a bumped-over tripod. Landed on the camera back (lens up) on a hard wood floor. No serious camera damage, but the 17-55 f2.8 lens needed a circuit board re-attached from the impact jolt. So a couple of benjamins later, I've got working (and very clean) equipment again. Took both to the Canon Factory Service Center up the freeway in Orange County.

    Wow - some amazing shots. I'm way out of touch these days (RL has a way of doing that...), but do try to pop in from time to time and these are pretty jawdropping, not least of which jkbart's winning entry.
