It looks like you have an error in your css. The following is not a legal css comment...

/---end full screen

Remove that and see if that helps.

thanks for catching that. i thought the / denoted comments. i'll try it later, looks like smugmug is going thru maintenance right now

I feel like I am so close to what I want... Pretty cool stuff. Wanted this kind of look for at least a year!

http://www.jakespointofview.com/

Now that I have my logo in the right spot everything else has moved up. I've tried a bunch of adjustments but am not getting anywhere.

I need it all to be done through the css so I can copy the header/nav bar code to my blog to keep things as "seamless" as possible.

Any help on what I need to adjust for the alignment would be great!

I think I got everything squared on the homepage how I like it on my own.

now if I could just get the portfolio and project galleries to have the nice large slideshow...

Full Screeen Slideshow Image Size Suggestion?
I just read your tutorial and info on the blog. Very cool! Now I want to give it a try. Do you have any suggestions as to the optimum image size? My screen resolution is 1680x1050. Should I prepare the huge file like that? Do you suggest to compress the image quite a bit to make it lighter?

Justin, thanks so much for the easy to follow tutorial, it works a charm and photos look great on the homepage slideshow! I do however have one, possibly stupid question for you. I am really not so great with Photoshop, so I wind up getting confused about some things.

In regard to the "transparent header background", the first set of instructions says to create a 10px by 10px file with a transparent background. Nothing in the directions is hard to follow, but is it really supposed to be 10 pixels ? Isn't that a really tiny area to cover ? I did as you said, and uploaded the image to a gallery, and copy/pasted the itsy bitsy image address'(original size) exactly where it says to. I set transparency at 50% and made the second layer's fill black. Yet I see nothing different.

FYI, I have only used the easy customizer to make a simple header banner with the navigation bar. What am I missing/doing wrong ? Thanks!

You can just upload the originals to SmugMug. The code will pick the appropriate display size to use that SmugMug generates for you.

I downloaded the image and it is a solid white square. When you make the image in photoshop, you should only have one layer. Make that one layer either white or black, reduce the opacity and then save as a png. Give it a shot again and let me know how it goes.

Most of the code is compressed to reduce the file size. Is the code you need to edit messed up too? There should be some formatted code at the top of the file.

Now I'm confused. Shouldn't it technically be two layers ? According to the instructions:
Quote:
Create a 10px x 10px file in photoshop with a transparent background.
- Add a new layer and fill it with either white or black.
That "new" layer would make the second layer, no ?

So, I'm opening a file as it says, transparent and 10x10px. Then going to the menu, choosing layer> new>layer> Grey But I don't really see and option for "white or black". or should the layer be a "fill layer" rather than a regular layer ? Maybe this is where I'm messing up ?

Thank you Flowrider ! Now I'm finally getting somewhere. Interesting to note: Some of the .png's I created might have worked, but I made a stupid mistake. I noticed that when I used yours, it didn't work either, so that led me to question what I could have done wrong. What I did was click on the image thumbnail, and used the location of it from the lightbox. Duh. That was mistake one.

Now, I'm looking to correct whatever is wrong with the working one. Why is it only extending down right past my navbar, and not further ? I would like the height of it to be at least double what it currently is. Where do I fix that?

Thanks again!

No worries I'm glad you got one part figured out anyhow.

Ok, I have figured this out, and perhaps this should be included in the instructions on the first page. When saving the document/file, the PNG type should be 24 bit and NOT 8 bit. This is what ultimately turned things around for me, and was not obvious at all, at least not to me.

Also, It's not necessary to create a second layer, (thanks FR) as you can simply use the fill bucket on the zero layer and turn the opacity down on that one. Less steps, same results I believe..

Need Nav Bar to right of Header????
I'm looking to put my nav bar in my header like found here http://www.nicolejacobsphotography.com/. I read the post where this site was used as an example, and I figured out how to make it transparent, but not how to position the nav bar in the header, or at least beside it. Help!?

You have an error in your slideshow parameters (in the "source" part). I don't know this slideshow to know what is the right syntax, but I'd suggest going back to the tutorial and check each line against the tutorial, paying particular attention to each label, comma, colon, etc...
