What does it mean to be certified?
** Each company listed has an excellent working relationship with SmugMug. SmugMug puts our stamp of approval on their customer support, responsiveness, friendliness, and understanding of SmugMug code. We love them and they love us!


How do I contact them?
** Just go to the links listed above and contact any company directly. They are wanting your business and will work with you throughout the selection process.


How do I buy one of the templates or custom sites?
** You will purchase directly through their shopping carts. SmugMug does not charge you anything.


What if I want to make changes to my site years/months later?
** Each certified company has their own policy. Look carefully at their support & modifications policies. Plus, remember there is always a SmugMug Support Hero standing by.


How do I file a complaint about one of the companies you list?
** We doubt you'll ever have to do this. But you can always send an email to our Support Heroes, ATTN: Certified Customization Complaint

This is cool. My CSS is in need of some serious fixin'!

What might be nice (here or elsewhere) is to see where these folks are located. Not that I'm opposed to hiring someone long distance for this sorta thing, but I'd probably start with someone local, if I had that option.

Our main office for MyProFoto is located in Oklahoma City, OK. But we have designers in PA, ID, FL, and one in the UK.

We're in Northern California! I'm up north of San Francisco in Sonoma County, and a couple of our designers are in the heart of SF. Pretty close to SmugMug Headquarters!

I just logged on to ask if anyone had any info on customization companies, I am need of a site rehaul quickly due to my procrastination! Does anyone have any specific good or bad experiences with these companies? I looked on the info sheet but there didn't seem to be a breakdown of pricing, turnaround time etc on smugmug. If I am just missing it can someone send it. If not, no biggie I will check with them all tonight.

Please forgive me if these are stupid questions but I've never done this before.

Does anyone have a specific list of questions that would be beneficial to ask before hiring someone?
I'm a little confused on the differences between customization and templates? I'm assuming the templates can't be changed and the customization can - is this correct?

Also I've noticed a couple of these designers give a smugmug discount - is that something I should wait to see from everybody in the next couple weeks?

Hey Erin. Customizations and templates are essentially done the same way. They can be changed in the future, if you have the stomach for some CSS/HTML. Just to note, customizations never affect what you can do on SmugMug in terms of creating new galleries and uploading images. You can always do that without code.

With customizations the designer is building you a skin for your SmugMug from scratch based on your preferences. Templates on the other hand are pre-built SmugMug skins. You pick one, the designer installs it and sets up your pages for you.

Hi Erin!

I agree with Justin, who does great work by the way. I would add that you might ask for specific ideas that help your site sell your business. We all work with tons of photographers, and get a pretty fair idea of what people are doing that works, and what people do that don't work so well. What works for wedding photographers might not be the best for landscape photographers, or hip concert photographers.

My goal is to find out the personality of your business and convey that in your design, logo and copy, in a style that appeals to your target audience and sets you apart. If you've already got that down and can find a template which fits your ideas, then templates are great. A customized site costs more than a template, but the expertise and give and take you get can sometimes mean the difference between a professional looking site which increases your sales, and one that just sits there unnoticed and looking pretty.

And yes, I do offer the discount, 20% off the first year for new signups, or 20% off your next year if you have an existing account. Typically I only do this for new signups, unless you add a blog to your site, but you shot Van Morrison. That's worth thirty bucks in my book.

I'd like to add for anybody that is wondering who to choose... I've exchanged emails or had phone conversations with everyone on the certified customizers list (except Big Folio) and they are all stand up people who do great work. SmugMug certainly picked the cream of the crop!

You will be in good hands no matter who you choose to work with. Each one of us has our own flavor of design, services and expertise. Your best bet is to have a look at what everyone has to offer and pick the one you feel best suits your needs.
