Entry Thread - Mini Challenge #90 - From The Park

Welcome to Round #90 of the Dgrin Mini-Challenges

This challenge is open to any DGrin member. It will run through February 23. (2 weeks).

Your Judge: davev.

The subject is "From the Park"

No matter where you live, you have probably been to a park.
This could be a city park, county park, water park, national park, amusement park, etc.

It could be shots of kids playing, animals roaming around, a group having a picnic, the list goes on and on.

The only rule is the shot needs to taken in a park.
Of course it would be great if you could share the name of the park also.

I'm expecting to see a very large turnout for this one, maybe as many as the "Black and White" mini.
Commenting on the great shots you are about to see would be fantastic. (and it just may sway the judge):D

Have fun with this, comment on others shots, share why you took the shot you entered, there could be some great stories behind the photos.

OUR UN-OFFICIAL GENERAL RULES
1. Have fun sharing and seeing what others share!
2. The host supplies a topic and you post 1-3 images. The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and is not eligible to enter.
The 1st place winner then chooses the next topic, judges the winner and then passes on the baton to the new champion.
3. Any photo you’ve taken is eligible, regardless of when taken or camera used.
4. Any amount of post-processing is allowed. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.
You may comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you some critique or criticism, just ask within your post.
5. The winner has up to three days (72 hours) to begin a new mini-challenge, or the honor goes to the #2 finisher and so forth.
Guidelines:
1. Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post.
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
4. Give each image you enter a title.
5. Enjoy discussion with members about their images, don't let this just be an entry thread!
6. Don't be hesitant, share'em and enter!
Mini-Challenge pointers:
1. Upon winning a mini-challenge round your first step is coming up with a new theme, and start a new thread using the same format as others have used.
2. Make sure to notify the admin of this thread to update the main thread links with your entry thread.
3. Feel free to watch the thread as it grows or wait to the end time and look at all the entries all at once.
4. After the time/date has passed, then officially close the thread with a single post notifying everyone of the fact.
5. After you're finished judging start a new thread (again use the prior formats) and post your Winner and runners-up, it is important to have runners up incase the winner does not show within the 72hr window.
6. PM the winner with this info above and let them know they have 72hrs.
7. After the 72hrs and the winner does not show up, notify the next runner-up and post a message on the Winner thread of the fact.
8. Remember, if you're the Winner, you run the show.

I mostly shoot wildlife, so my examples are heavily weighted in that direction.
This isn't a challenge about animals, it's about what's in the park.

There's a crazy, drive-through Safari park in Pine Mountain, GA. "Pine Moutain Wild Animal Safari." You buy a bag of Safari-Chow, drive through the park and feed the animals. They are all so used to the traffic, and apparently only get fed by the visitors, so they come right, right, right up to the car. We had a giraffe reach in the driver's window, and across to the right hand of the passenger and take a whole bag of the feed. You sign a waiver releasing the park from damage to your car, and you quickly see why, with the horns, antlers, and slobber. It's amazing.

I live in the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in the United States with immigrants from all over the world calling it home. I love that about my neighborhood and I love that my kids are able to be part of it.
This shot was taken on one of the last beautiful fall days in 2009 in "Indian Park" the local playground.
My sister decided to start playing Red Light Green Light 1, 2, 3 and well our spot became popular quick. This is one of my favorite photos of that day and really of my neighbors. Just in this glimpse alone, the countries represented are China, Mexico, India, Russia, Cuba, Bolivia, El Salvador and of course The United States, as most of the kids here are first generation.

Thank you Lauren and Meandirine--I'm glad you like it--I was happy with the results and being able to capture "the joys of childhood". I sure wish Red Light Green Light got the same reaction out of me as it did the kids, I'd play it everyday.

O.k., I am sure this shot wouldn't win the challenge on skill, but possibly on the fun factor! My daughter and I were at the Albuquerque Zoo on Valentine's Day. We happened to walk up to the gorillas and here this guy sat, forlornly staring at us as if we could take him away...

Linda - Great shot of Bloody Lane! I visited there a couple of times when I lived in DC and it was such a moving and haunting place.

Looks like Dave is going to have a tough time with this challenge! I'm looking through my files for something to contribute.

Thanks Lauren!

Yeah, Bloody Lane definitely leaves a mark on your psyche. I had the place to myself that day because we visited there during the week.

My husband headed over to the tower but I wanted to walk the lane.

I think some folks who were thinking of entering got blown away by those shots from the west. There's nothing here on the east coast that even compares to that kind of scenery. But that's not all there is to a park.

I think once the shock wears off, we'll see more from folks.

Everyone has such beautiful National Park landscapes. My favorite subjects to shoot are children and I frequently take them to the park, so I can throw some of those in.

I really love this one, though. It really captures the essence of a park in my mind. Probably because of deeply rooted childhood memories of dealing with the pine needles in the potato salad.
