Same shot, slightly different times…

Last night (scouting, at approximately Muench-star-thirty):

This mornings, ~30 minutes before sunrise:

~2 minutes after sunrise:

~15 minutes after sunrise @ first light on the arch:

The word amateur has been redefined throughout the years and has lost the gleam of its original meaning.
The English word comes from the Latin word amore, which means to love.
An amateur is someone who does something simply for the love of it.

Wow, nice. I know where the Alabama Hills are in California, and never thought there was this big of a wow factor. Whereabouts were these taken off Hwy 395.

Straight out of Lone Pine. Take Whitney Portal road west about 3 minutes out of Lone Pine, right on Movie Road, and about 2 miles up is a parking area. It's a simple 5 minute walk to the arch.

Thanks. Wish I had known this while coming back from Mammoth this past summer. Again, nice job and good information.

Thanks!

I tried

Was trying to figure out a way to burn an afternoon up there as well, given the way the hills face in Lone Pine, but I couldn't bear the thought of trucking myself up to the White Mountains

#2 is great. It looks like alien planet or something. The color and detail are just awesome!!

Arch-tastic :-)

Many fewer arches in Alabama Hills (there are two right next to each other) than in Arches & Canyons, for sure. But this one has the coolest name, and the background s'ok

Thanks Dan!

Sweet! I was going to stop there on my way from Death Valley but ran out of time (like normal). My favorite is the second but they're all good.
