Troubleshooting code for Internet Explorer - with a Mac
Hi guys,

Has this ever been discussed here, and if so, can anyone point me to it? All my computers are Macs, and i appears to me that the version of IE 5.2 that I have is the latest version available for Mac.

So I can't even see how my pages look in IE 6 or IE 7.

What have others done? Am I going to have to buy a PC, or hire somebody to debug for IE for me?

Thanks for your thoughts.

:) Yep IE5 was discontinued years ago.

Do you have an intel mac? Then VMware and Windows are your best bet, works great!

We can't help you here though, without knowing your site So always list it so that those who want to help, can help.

I do have Intel Macs. What's VMware? What do I need to get, and from where?

I'm told there are multiple things wrong in IE but I haven't seen them for myself. Just starting to get (closer to) where I want to be in Firefox. It's:

earth-photos.smugmug.com

And I gotta tell ya, Andy, for the record, while it seems like there might could be a tighter, more succinct collection of all the data you need if you just walk in here cold, you guys are priceless, and very patient, with all of us who are trying to get up to speed.

So thanks.

VMware Fusion.

And then get a license of Windows XP. Works great on your Intel Mac

Hi, you're using that dropdown navbar stuff. It's funky and ugly in IE6, yes. Please post in the dedicated, sticky thread for navbar help, this very forum. If Allen can help, he surely will.

You've applied additional code to your bio box, to center your slideshow. It's not working for IE6. It's better probably if you follow the CSS that we give on the Wiki, for centering the slideshow in all browsers.

Fixing Internet Explorer problems on a Mac Part II
Good morning everyone,

We had this exchange yesterday, and it kind of stalled out. I asked:

"Has this ever been discussed here, and if so, can anyone point me to it? All my computers are Macs, and it appears to me that the version of IE 5.2 that I have is the latest version available for Mac.

So I can't even see how my pages look in IE 6 or IE 7.

To which Andy replied:

":) Yep IE5 was discontinued years ago.

Do you have an intel mac? Then VMware and Windows are your best bet, works great!"

So, can anyone elaborate on what VMware is and what it does?

And specifically, couple of things I'm told (but haven't seen) don't work on my site in IE:

- Drop down tiles are on top of each other in "About" in navbar

- When you click "home" it takes you to Smugmug home, not my home

- Buttons show through the masthead and "EarthPhotos" looks like "Earthpho...."

None of this happens in Firefox. Any ideas for fixes? I've been on Macs all my life and I'm a complete idiot about anything "IE."

My site is http://earth-photos.smugmug.com

Thanks very much.

None of these problems occur for me on IE7 running on Vista.
Sorry, I can't check IE6 for you. But if the comments are coming from your users who are running IE5 - if it were me, I'd recommend that they use a supported browser.
