problem with my site..
I notice and friends tell me that if they enter one of my galleries or cattegories from the homepage they find it difficult to navigate back to the main page (hope that makes sense). Is there anyway of having a button that always returns to the index of my galleries?

Remove this from your CSS, goes in bottom javascript.

filmstripMove = 0;

See if adding this to your CSS exposes the links you want.

#breadCrumbTrail {color: #bca;}

.category #breadCrumbTrail,
.category #breadCrumbTrail span,
.category #breadCrumbTrail a.nav {color: #446666;}

You already have that, although maybe your viewers don't know to use it.

Clicking on the first entry in the breadcrumb returns the viewers to your home page.

An alternative would be to add something like this to your gallery descriptions:
Code:

<html>
Click <a href="http://ightenhill.smugmug.com">here</a> to return to my home page.
</html>
