Ice caves on Lake Superior

Here are some shots I got March 1st at Meyers Beach, WI near Cornucopia west of Bayfield Wisconsin. I got out to the caves just as the sun was setting in hopes the sunset would deliver . . . oh yes it did! These caves are only accessible by foot when Lake Superior is safely frozen. This is the first time in 3 years that the ice has been thick enough. Normally the only access is by kayak when the lake is calm enough.
I hope you enjoy! Link here: http://pthorpe.smugmug.com/gallery/4445450_uF4M3/1/261286686_7U8D5

Neat photos!! I love the first one, very conflicting - the right window of the blue water and the reflecting sun on the cave make me think summer but then the ice reminds me its winter. I also love the silouettes.

Very cool. I've wanted to make it out to the caves for a while. I'll be on Madelaine Island at the end of the month, think the lake will still be thick enough then? Thanks for sharing.

You were absolutely correct about the sunset delivering on #1. That is a marvelous photograph.
