Canon 70-200 F4 on a crop?

Howdy folks - anybody care to share some people shots taken with this lens+crop camera? I'm considering getting one for an outdoor shoot coming up, but given that I'm usually shooting at f2.8 or wider aperture, I'd love to see the bokeh on this lenes, specifically the bokeh on backgrounds behind a subject to see if this will be a lens I'll enjoy working with.

Thanks in advance!

I should have a few, I'll try and dig them up...

I love this lens! It's so light, My friend let me shoot with his 70-200 f/2.8 IS II on Saturday. I kept coming back to mine because I could actually carry it... :)

@JohnGalt and @Bendr- thanks guys, that would be great. I'd love to see f4 shots (at various focal lengths) so show me what you gots :)

@PuzzledPaul - sure, love to see them, but since I shoot on a 1.6 they'll offer different perceived focal length, compression, and blur as I understand it. I've seen quite a few images from this lens on a FF camera and like them, but F4 dof on a full-frame machine is different from what you get on a crop, hence why I want to see if will offer enough bokeh for me :D

@DeVerm - Thanks for the link, but I don't actually want the 2.8 - in addition to not having the $ right now, I don't like lugging that much weight around. I usually use my 135L as a telephoto, but for what I have coming up a zoom would be really helpful.

@wave01 - used copies of this lens are not particularly spendy, and it's a very popular lens - if I buy one and don't like it, I'm sure I can sell it for about what I pay for it, which will probably cost me less than renting (without any time limit). Believe me, if it were something like a 70-200II 2.8is, I'd be renting it first !!

F4 for all but Cindy which is 187 mm at f 4.5.
In fact, if you recall YOU'RE the one who insisted I get the 70-200 out and shoot at f4 outdoors, so these are all sort of your fault.rolleyes1.gif

Here are a few of mine, all taken with either the Canon 40D or 7D and the Canon 70-200 f/4 L IS. There was probably some cropping done on some of them.

Thanks Elaine - those are super-helpful! I think if I use it wide with enough separation from any backgrounds I'll be really happy with it. I have the 24-70 2.8 as well as the primes - including the 135L - for those times when I want to crush a bg to dust from closer than 200mm, so for the price I think it will be a good investment and useful tool for me. I've found one at a great price, so assuming the sale goes through I'm good to go.

    Thanks again, guys!

Diva, you will LOVE that lens. It's my sharpest, most favorite lens. Unfortunately, on a 1.6 crop it's too long for studio work but once I get back outside it will be out in force.

Zoomer, you may be the only person here who wants to see more from me but here you go.

Yes, if you consider your separation from the background, I think you'll be quite pleased with this lens. It has been one of my most used and trusted lenses, and it is quite comfortable to lug around. Hope you enjoy it!

The f4 just arrived - it IS light! I was expecting it to be about the same as my 24-70L, but it's nothing like as much of a brick as that.

Haven't really had a chance to try it out more than to make sure it's functional (the box was mangled on arrival - grrr usps), although I certainly will be running it through its paces in greater detail. I'm looking forward to using it on the shoot for which it was purchased. I suspect I'll miss 2.8, but in some ways having a maximum of F4 will be good for me since I sometimes go TOO shallow with the 135L - bg details are smoothed out like buttah which is great... except when I WANT a bit of detail and forget to stop down a little. This is definitely going to be fun to play with!!
