    Comment List for "Our Wedding"

    Picture Comment Writer
3444.jpg "What a great picture" JIm
3456.jpg "can't believe you jumped in" Matt
2344.jpg "picture of things to come" <anonomous>
    .....

    You get the idea.

I think this would be really cool.
    Thanks for the feature request!

Access to Original files while logged in
    Hey folks,

In most of my galleries, especially in my portfolio galleries, I have "Original" files turned off. I don't want other people to have access to them. What that means, though, is if I want to download an original file, I must first change the customization in a gallery to allow Originals, download the file, and then change the preferences back to disallow originals.

This causes two problems (one real, the other more minimal)
    1. It's a bunch of extra steps, especially if I want to download files from several galleries.
    2. It temporarily opens my galleries up to other people downloading my original files, especially if I forget to change the preference back

Would it be possible to give access to original files as long as I am logged into my account. Of course, there are options available when you are logged in that disappear when you log out, so could this be one of them?

    Thanks for considering it!

Smugmug's security for access to the original images is rather weak, it only hides the link to the original image but doesn't prevent a person to get the original file. I don't want to reveal the method here, but its very easy. I've previously suggested they make it harder to truly protect access to the original image, but not dice yet.

You sure? Did you try to get the original for a gallery with originals turned off?
Sample link for a large and it's original with originals turned off. Not much of a difference? That's because smugmug serves you the large (in this case even only the medium) when you try to access the original when trying to access it through the direct link for an original. mwink.gif

    Hope this helps,

We think it's very secure. Originals, if disabled, cannot be viewed or hacked. If you have a way to break it, let us know. Feel free (please do!) to email me at help@smugmug.com ATTN: Andy. Describe how you think it's breakable - we'd love to see it!

    Thanks very much.

And what do you think about making originals available to the gallery owner when logged in, even if they are turned off to the public?

    Thanks for considering it!

    Statistics Format
I know this has been posted elsewhere (I've gone searching for related topics) but I just have to add my voice: I hope smugmug can find another way to display statistics for accounts. I've been uploading like a madwoman, and expect to do alot more. The current view of statistics is getting unwieldy to scroll through. I could do without the visual charting and think that a grid approach (row=gallery (embedded URL to actually gallery); column=photo size; cell=hits) is much more efficient, page-wise. If it were a table, it might - depending on format - then be easier for someone to simply copy / paste into an offline spreadsheet for their own analysis.

These bar charts are killing me, I can't see things quickly and well, I'd like to. Is there anything you can share on updates to the statistics feature that are in the works?

    I've been thinking... (runnn!!)

How many people actually use the "negative" tool in the color tools? I've used auto-adjust, I've used the warming filter, ("tanning salon"), I've used Sepia and B&W, but I've never ever used the negative tool, and now that I think of it, I've never even a negative image on smugmug that I know of...

Why not do away with it, and make it a COOLING filter instead? That would be SO much more useful!!! I can't think of a witty title for it though, sorry.

But seriously folks, consider my suggestion!

    -Matt-
THIS is a great request, Matt. Thanks.

    Cheers,

I would be very happy to see a way to make a direct link to gallery categories. Just like the one is now at Popular photos Gallery.

    So you could write
    <a href="www.mydomain.com/galleries">check all galleries</a>

    Now it is impossible :uhoh

I know you could fool around with share groups or create some bizarre category which would contain all other galleries as subcategories (or something like that).

But since it is possible to get Gallery Categories on the front page, wouldn't it be possible just see exactly same on a link, just like Popular photos right now?
