    OMG! OMG! OMG! Thanks everyone for the votes. This makes my night... actually this makes my whole week. Last night, my car went caput...maybe for permanent and today my grandma passed away... so it's been a really crappy couple of days to say the least. I seem to have a big black cloud hanging over my head right now. This really cheered me up a bit tonight.

    Funny thing about this photo... I actually thought I didn't get that particular moment since I happened upon it quite by accident and it was gone in a split second. I don't know who that young man is, but if I did I'd give him a big hug right now.

    Congrats to tinamarie and k10d as well!! Both really great shots and 2 of my favorites this round. clap.gif

    Sorry to hear about your grandma Lisa, my condolences.

    I wanted to say that you mentioned that the "moment" happened in a split second. THAT is the essence of life that springs forth in your image! The moment is usually a fraction of a second, great job capturing it!

    Wow. Congratulation for the winners. Truly sorry for your loss pedal girl. I dont want to sound like a sore loser but Im missing something here. I m at the bottom of the list ???? I didnt see anything REALLY spectacular in this contest, honestly. At least not the way I see it. A wow picture should be more like "what the heck!!!"
    I didnt think I would win but Im really shocked to be where I am. Was the contest based on emotion? Do contestant ask their friends to vote for them???
    Again I dont want to rain on the winners parade like other contestant did previously but REALLY was my water ball that bad?
    Can someone tell me where I went wrong? I didnt have any living creatures/human in it thats probably why.
    This is my first contest and just want to understand how it works.

    I can assure you that the challenge votes are not a popularity contest. They are monitored closely. People have a variety of ways that they choose images. It is always encouraged that people who vote look at the images by whether they feel it fits the theme, by how well the image is technically executed and by creativity. Everything else they choose to vote by is up to them.

    Hi everyone - I wasn't able to participate or even vote this time around so I'm catching up and wanted to say congratulations to all the winners! My vote would have matched the end results as each of the images in the top 3 were standouts but all the images were good and interesting to see the various interpretations of the theme, (which I think was a difficult one.)     Well, first of all you weren't bottom of the pile ... there were others with fewer points.
    Photography is, as I'm sure you appreciate, a *very* subjective 'game' ... what takes one person's fancy / eye isn't guaranteed to do the same with others.

    'Wow' pics are (imo) extremely rare beasts anyway - full stop / period - in this instance I'd agree with you that none of the above fitted that particular bill.
    All that anyone entering (or voting) can do is to try and match the challenge criteria as they see fit ... and apply a similar approach to other entries if they decide to vote.

    This wasn't a particulary straightforward theme to interpret / depict in some ways, however I can envisage completely inanimate approaches that I would've considered worthwhile trying - if I'd have been bothered to so do.

    My entry wasn't taken with any challenge in mind - I was out there anyway, taking advantage of the weather, trying to get snow in frame ... and hoping / trying to get some action shots (and failing) in said conditions. The gull's turned head made me think it demonstrated being fed up ... and imagined it thinking ... 'In a moment like this, I'd like to be ...'

    I have no idea what your thinking was with your pic (re the theme) ... ie how a ball - with little similarity to our planet + water fits in?

    Not trying to be confrontational, btw - just curious ... I've noticed many pics on other occasions relying (too heavily imo) on their title to tie things together ... as the documentary / street denizens say ... the pic should speak for itself :)

    Re having other goes - it might be worth a shufties at past winning entries to get some idea of what voters are looking for - there are certainly clues there (imo)
