View Full Version : Do your friends have trouble loading your smugmug page?

I really want to know if any other smugmug members are having this problem. A lot of my friends say they can not load my smugmug site (it's at http://baboo.smugmug.com (http://baboo.smugmug.com/)) -- the latest guy to complain about it said he had the latest version of Internet Explorer and it was set to accept all cookies.
ARGH. This is getting really frustrating. I love the unlimited space at smugmug, but now it is looking like I will have to go with some other site (and pay more money and get less out of it @#$%...)
The only reason I paid for smugmug was to have a stable, pop-up free place to host lots of pictures....
Well, I'd like to know from smugmug members here if your friends have made similar complaints.
I should add that the site always works for me, whether I connect from work or home.

Never a problem from home or work and it loads very good from even the slow connection we have at work.
No complaints from up here in Canada eh!:D

worked fine for me. tried yours just to check. never had any problems except for very occasional site updates, but shows the "update in progress" message

I have never had any trouble. Your site loaded very quickly with no problems.

I just have a basic smugmug gallery, but no one has ever complained of problems other than the very few times the site has gone down. I don't worry about that because that happens to them all and some are much, much worse! If you decide to change I wouldn't go with imagestation or pbase. Way too many problems there.
Oh and your site loaded fine for me.
Never have a problem unless it is down for maint of course.

Loaded fine for me just now...
Hey baboo, if it isn't too much hassle... why don't you have your friend email us at email@example.com? I am definitely curious as to what sort of problem he would be having that would inhibit his viewing of your galleries.
Even cookies shouldn't be an issue with just basic viewing. Cookies only come into play for things like entering passworded galleries or ordering prints.
I wonder if he isn't using some content control software like ZoneAlarm or something. A few of those have given intermittent problems in the past... with no apparent rhyme or reason.
Either way, if you have him contact us... we can probably get it figured out!

My viewers have had issues, but not of the sort you describe.
The two issues that seem to come up most often are:
Ordering prints doesn't work. They order and the prints don't come.
They don't figure out that some galleries have more than one page.
I'm pretty sure that 1. is a user interface issue just like 2. People go through the odering process and then don't know that they have to complete it by clicking on some final button.
Both of these issues should have simple solutions, but I'm not very good at usability myself. I would never have guessed that these would be issues, but people (including me) always find ways not to get it. Once we find particular ways that are especially common, we should try to address them.
We have a brand new print interface in the works. I am fairly confident that is the only (major) problem with the print ordering system. Some people seem to get confused in the ordering process... and either think they have already finished the order, or think their order didn't work so they order again.
It is our top priority right now, and should be good stuff.
We are still kicking around ideas to make it more obvious that there are several pages to a gallery, without making it intrusive and ugly.

It's pretty obvious what the problem is. Baboo, you have a gallery labeled Fukuoka. The ol' porn blocker's hard at work protecting people. :D
BTW, I've never had a problem with smugmug. Very happy.

Thanks for your input guys -- I still don't understand why some of my friends can't load it... Well, I told a couple of them to use a different computer -- for one friend, that worked very well.
Using a different computer shouldn't be a problem for most friends, esp here in Korea, where there are more internet cafes than public bathrooms....
I enjoy smugmug too much to switch to anything else, and next time someone complains, I'll have them mail firstname.lastname@example.org.

The only time I had a "problem" was during the 03 Iron Butt, I took a bunch of photos at the Maine checkpoint and posted to several bulletin boards and mail lists. WHOO overload. By the time I read my letter warning me of approaching limits and looked, Pow, I had gone over the top. Only time I had a"problem".

esp here in Korea...Ah, I've been wondering what this could be. Another customer told us that there's a huge Korean ISP that blocks access to us. We've contacted them many times but they ignore us. We think we've found a way around them that should be working by next month. Sorry about that.

I tried it on 3 different computers here at work, and the page loaded just fine on all 3. On an entirely unrelated note, I was in Japan the same weekend you were, but I was in Tokyo and Kyoto. I put up 2 galleries at http://dach.smugmug.com (http://dach.smugmug.com/) (shameless plug!) I like your pix, but I wish you had captions on some of them so I knew what I was looking at.
